Rang - Rang

Rang - Rang

Early in March this year I took a much needed island escape over to one of Bali’s sister islands, Nusa Penida.

Diamond Beach, Nusa Penida

40mins by boat, this little weekend getaway gave me the opportunity to explore outside of Bali and discover the chance encounter of the islands unique handmade fabric - Rang Rang!

After trekking some of the islands hotspots, I was very excited to adventure around the island in search of the most beautiful loom woven fabric I could find.

Tanglad Village, Nusa Penida

I drove to the very centre of the island, to meet the most authentic maker of the island, a small family business of husband, wife and daughter living in the local village.

After getting lost on the small winding roads I eventually arrived at a rare and traditional sunken village, surrounded by temples, tiny alleys and old traditional Indonesian houses.

I met the lovely family here, whose beauty of their craft was truly stunning, with very ancient designs woven deeply into the fibres in deep rustic colours.

However, wanting something lighter, brighter and fun for Summer season, I chose the first fabric I had discovered on day one :) - a lush cream, orange, turquoise and pink design, which I absolutely adore!

There will be more personalised fabrics appearing in the future, as I create my own colours and patterns whilst I continue to work alongside these wonderful local craft folk!

But for now I look forward to sharing the final piece with you very soon!!
